- From North To South - Some of our favorites are here -

If you’re looking to make a splash this summer, why not visit one (or all) of the top 10 waterfalls in Vermont? From raging rapids to peaceful cascades, there’s something here for everyone.

Vermont is home to some of the most majestic waterfalls in the country. From Vermont's highest waterfall, Bingham Falls, to Moss Glen Falls with its spectacular multiple tiers, there's something for everyone! Here are our top 10 picks of must-see cascades:

Let’s start off with a classic: Moss Glen Falls! Tucked away in Granville Gulf State Park and surrounded by gorgeous greenery, the falls span about 25 feet wide and are divided into two sections for an impressive display of water power. The best time to go is during the spring snowmelt or after heavy rains. Located on Rt 100 in Granville.

HIKE DETAILS Skill Level: Easy

  • View Trail Map

  • Type: Waterfall hike

  • Distance: 0.6 – 4.2 miles

  • Time: 20 minutes (to falls & back), 2-3 hours (full hike)

  • Climb: 150’ (falls & back), 613’ (full hike)

  • Trailhead Location: 369-615 Moss Glen Falls Rd, Stowe, VT 05672. From the historic village, take route 100 North 3 miles and bear right onto Randolph Road. The first road on the right is Moss Glen Falls Road. Proceed about a half-mile to a small parking area on the left. Follow the trail signs.

East Putney Falls, Putney -These beautiful falls make two steep drops of about 20 feet each into a very good natural swimming hole. Unlike most Vermont waterfalls, the East Putney Falls never have a "sweet spot" visiting time; the views are just as beautiful in April as in November. Rock ledges on the sides of the pool also stay dry enough to sit comfortably for a picnic or to chaperone younger swimmers. It is important to note that while access is free, the falls are on private property; at the owners' request, do not try to access the upper falls.

Parking is available 100 feet off East Putney Road, on the right side of Gasset Road. On foot, you will find two trails from the parking area: the left trail leads down to the base of the falls, and the right trail leads up to views of the upper falls from a safe distance. Be careful when near the brook, as the ground can be very slippery.

If you’re looking for a more secluded experience, check out Buttermilk Falls – one of Vermont’s lesser-known waterfalls. This 50-foot beauty is tucked away near Mt Tabor and provides a peaceful escape from modern life. The best time to visit is during summer and fall when the foliage is at its peak! Located on Buttermilk Rd in Plymouth.

Directions From the center of Ludlow, VT, take Route 100 north. Turn left on Rt. 103. Buttermilk Falls Road is approximately 1.5 miles further on the right. Turn here and proceed to end. The falls and Branch Brook are along the abandoned stretch of old Route 103.
